Winter Again!

Just kidding!

The sun had come shining bright and warm. The sky is mostly cloudless. Daylight is longer, early morns and evenings brighter. The roads and walkways had been cleared of ice and water, while drainpipes continuously echo the noisy gurgles of flowing water that comes from the melting snow that have been piled up high along the roads and open grounds. Some migratory birds have come back from their long journeys. Green offshoots and colorful crocus buds have emerged. The air is refreshingly cool. Songs of birds fill the air.

Yes, spring had come!

Amid the joyful anticipation of a lovely spring, clouds began to gather again. For some days these past two weeks, showers of snow came intermittently, heaping a new layer of glittery powder on the ground.

Yesterday, heavy snowfall darkened the whole place and kept the people in their cozy homes all day long. Large snow clusters fell steadily, first blanketing the first spring flowers with light snow. Then the snow accumulated fast, thickening the white blanket up to about 20 cm. Everything is cloaked with glorious whiteness again, softly contouring anew the mounds of melting snow.

It's another winter! Or maybe it's winter's goodbye. Perhaps it forgot to say goodbye the proper way. Perhaps it has come to express its farewell through the last snow that it possessed this season, sprinkling a   little of its fine powder over spring. Whatever...it's still beautiful, as always.

And since it was Sunday, it's the perfect time to relax in the comfort of our homes, snugly drinking a cup of brewed coffee and  nibbling on a delicious Swedish "semla" bread.

This morning when I woke up, the sun was shining intensely, the ground so white and smooth. When I opened the backdoor to feel the air, the warmth of the sun and the cold of the freshly-fallen snow joined together to produce an alchemy for the psyche. And I felt rejuvenated.

Yes, spring is definitely here, though snow still abounds.  The only thing left to do is wait until all the whiteness turns to a sea of vibrant colors. The lovely colors of sundry spring blossoms. Soon....

Have a wonderful week!
